Engineering metallic materials from atoms to applications through processing, defects, microstructure, and data-driven design.
I am an experimental materials scientist interested in designing metallic materials from the atomic scale to application. My research focuses on how defects, chemistry, microstructure, and non-equilibrium processing interact to control material behavior, and how these relationships can be engineered to achieve targeted performance.
I combine advanced characterization, materials processing, and data-driven approaches to understand and design metallic materials for demanding environments. My research interests span defect and vacancy engineering, irradiation and radiation-tolerant materials, metallic biomaterials, and data-driven materials processing. Across these areas, I am particularly interested in connecting atomic-scale mechanisms and measurable defect states with processing, properties, and the practical requirements that determine whether a material ultimately succeeds in an application.
I am currently a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Laboratory of Metal Physics and Technology (LMPT) at ETH Zürich, working with Prof. Jörg F. Löffler. My current research explores defect engineering in crystalline and amorphous metals, including the characterization and manipulation of vacancies and free volume, their evolution under irradiation and non-equilibrium processing, and their influence on material behavior.
I completed my Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University with Prof. Timothy P. Weihs. My doctoral research centered on processing-structure-property relationships in metallic biomaterials, particularly biodegradable magnesium alloys, while also developing data-driven approaches for materials discovery and process optimization. During my Ph.D., I was a Visiting Researcher at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and a Foreign Guest Researcher at the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
I earned my B.Tech. in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering from the National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli. During my undergraduate studies, I spent two summers as a research intern at the Indian Institute of Science and the National University of Singapore.
